Gabriela Montero, piano

Admission: $39.50

One part virtuosic classical pianist, one part devilish interpreter and one part playful improvisor, Gabriela Montero left the audience awestruck at her Toronto debut in 2007. She now returns for two special nights at Glenn Gould Studio.

Poulenc’s musings

Pre-Concert Chat hosted by Keith Horner, 7:30 pm

Admission: $45, $40 Seniors, $10 Students

Dedicating a whole evening to Francis Poulenc’s chamber music seemed like a wild idea at first. But the temptation of playing his famous Sextet with the brilliant TSO wind principals and presenting his “Story of Babar” for piano and a surprise prominent guest as narrator was just too great. An evening for 9 to 90 year-olds.

This last concert of the TLCA’s 50th season is dedicated to the works of this association’s founder, Latvian-Canadian composer, Talivaldis Kenins. It is a celebration of the successful seed he planted back in 1959 and the contribution he made to the musical life of his adopted country. It is fitting that the program features some of Canada’s finest musicians, among them Tali’s colleagues (and some former students) performing works that represent his long and prolific career including the Cello Sonata which was his graduation piece for the Paris Conservatoire and won him the prestigious Premier Prix in 1950. Also on the program are works for unaccompanied violin, a work featuring the clarinet, the first Piano Sonata (1961), his Concertante for flute and piano (1966) and the Piano Quintet from 1994.
