CBC Radio’s hit show The Debaters features Canada’s
hottest comedians going toe to toe, debating topics in the news
and on the minds of Canadians. The audience picks the winners
based on who delivered the best logic and laughs, the best rhetoric
and rant. Facts and force of argument can earn points, but in
the end, jokes will likely win the match. Comedy trumps all.

Live at the Gould presents
Apostle of Hustle,
with Tagaq
Admission: $25
|
Toronto’s Apostle of Hustle and Inouk singer Tagaq are
taking to the road this fall on a series of co-headlining dates.
They met last year at a CBC Fuse session in Ottawa, and inspired
by the music each was making, wanted to spend some time together
on the road.
For both Apostle of Hustle’s Andrew Whiteman, Julian Brown
and Dean Stone and Tagaq, the notion of collaboration comes naturally.
Whiteman performs as a member of Broken Social Scene, Brown has
toured and recorded with Feist, Stone has performed with Peter,
Bjorn & John, while Tagaq, on her new album Anuk, brought in
such diverse artists as Buck 65 and Mike Patton. Their concert promises
to bring some of that same magic and the spontaneity of live performance.

Crystal Journey with the art of Eden Martin presents
Journey Through the Solar System

David Hickey, with Eden Martin
Admission: $30
|
A musical, vibrational and colour journey through our solar
system with 18 Paiste Planet Gongs, Quartz Crystal Bowls and Vibraphone,
accompanied by artist-painter, Eden Martin.
Planet Gongs are tuned to the natural harmonic series based on
the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun and Planets. All
of these gongs resonate in harmony with the celestial bodies and
communicate a distinct aspect of the Music of the Spheres, which
was first written about by Pythagoras in the 6th Century BC. Each
planet gong contributes a vital pitch to the total harmonic resonance
of our solar system.
Crystal Bowls are made of 99.992% crushed quartz crystal that
is heated to 4000 degrees in a centrifugal mold. The thickness
of the bowl determines the note, digitally tuned to C D E F G
A and B corresponding to the charkas, our energy centers; root
(C), sacral (D), solar plexus (E), heart (F), throat (G), third
eye (A), and crown (B). The diameter of the bowl determines the
pitch, ranging from 6 inches to 22 inches.
Artist Eden Martin will capture the performance in color.
